"call it a night"
written after tossing in sunshine by jake kilroy.
nine cups of coffee and an unsuccessful nap
stirred my saturday like a witches' brew,
while my window stunned me as a portrait saint,
with a dry blue and a handful of palm trees,
as the french accordion lulled around my bed
like a drunken ghost of a romantic bastard,
piecing together the puzzle affair, finally,
or simply waiting out the quiet afternoon
until the sun passed out, and the moon snuck in,
popping a champagne bottle to dull the senses
and breathe the world in deep and call it a night.
